O'Brien Family Crest

O'Brien Family Crest

The O'Brien family name is derived from the Dalcassian sept of O'Briain which was a famous and powerful Irish sept. They took their name from the 10th-century kind Brian Born, who defeated the Vikings during the Battle of Clontarf.

The family O'Brien is well known due to the contentions with the Normans and Tudors. This family were very ambitious, holding many titles. Such titles include Earls of Thomond, Viscounts of Clare, and Earls of Inchiquin.
